We feel it is a real pleasure to host and welcome guests to the Cook Islands. Folk come to stay at their villas for great business opportunities, great adventures, great together times or just a great time doing as little as they like.
Welcome to Avarua Escape, Rarotonga
A love of hosting and a love of Rarotonga is what brought us to Avarua Escape. Following successful careers in the building trade and the corporate world, your hosts were looking for the right opportunity to give up the rat race of city life in Auckland, New Zealand. Offering accommodation in the Cook Islands – the island paradise they had both fallen in love with over the 15 years they had been visiting – let them do just that.
The move to the islands
Your hosts had known about Avarua Escape, or Te Manga Retreat as it was known, for some time. When the property came on the market, they jumped at the opportunity. Knowing this was a place where they could bring their vision to life, they packed up their lives in Auckland and moved to Rarotonga. A place they were delighted to call home.
Being fortunate enough to have travelled widely, they have experienced many different types of accommodation, from the grand to the boutique. They much preferred the smaller, more intimate experiences, staying in family-run boutique accommodation. With that in mind, they completely renovated and refurbished Avarua Escape, creating warm, relaxed, simple accommodation in the Cook Islands.

Their commitment is to provide a place where travellers can relax, chill out and recharge. They want their guest to have a “home away from home” and enjoy the secluded, yet super-convenient garden setting of Avarua Escape.

Your hosts are committed to following the Tiaki promise. Tiaki is a Maori word that means to care for people and place and to act as a guardian. As hosts and as guests in the Cook Islands themselves, they simply ask that you follow the Tiaki Promise. During your stay, please tread lightly on the land, sea and nature and leave no trace.
